longer mistaken for groupies and lap dancers by our male peers, the challenges
faced by any woman in the music industry have changed. It's no longer necessary
to pump up the triceps so we can parade about brandishing record crates. It's
not about proving we can play hard on the decks or hardball on the phone. We've
done more than our share of whining about the tribulations of being a strong woman
in an industry dominated by an 'older-than-old-school boys' club. We've exhausted
the classic "No, I'm not witht the DJ; I AM the DJ" mantra and corresponding issues
of DJ-first; gender second. We have announced, in stereo, that we are tired of
being interviewed about being a woman instead of about being musicians. In fact,
the whole female-DJ thing has faded into an anti-climactic non-issue. Boring.
Old. Tired. And so the focus shifts to where it has always belonged: upon the
